Read-only Git inspection tools for DeepSeek Harness
dsh-plugin-git-inspect adds read-only Git visibility for agents running inside DeepSeek Harness. It registers ten read-only model-facing tools -- git_status, git_diff, git_diff_stat, git_log, git_show, git_refs, git_conflicts, git_blame, git_stash_list, and git_worktree_list -- using the active Harness session's cwd (falling back to the host process working directory). Its safety model: it never invokes a shell (git is resolved through the Harness subprocess service with a fixed argv vector), user paths are passed after Git's -- pathspec separator, pagers/colors/external diff/text conversion/locks/prompts are disabled, only inspection commands are exposed (no commit/push/reset/stash/checkout/file-editing), the Harness cancellation signal is forwarded, stdout/stderr are bounded by configuration (reporting truncation), and git_blame is capped (default 50 lines, max 200) to protect the model context.
Install
dsh plugin --profile web add https://github.com/Wanbinyu/dsh-plugin-git-inspect/releases/download/v0.3.6/dsh-plugin-git-inspect-0.3.6.tgzThe repository declares dsh.bundle and ships cordis.patch.yml; add the v0.3.6 release tarball to the web profile with the line above, then restart dsh (the bundle inserts the git-inspect row). A manual install is also documented (npm install github:Wanbinyu/dsh-plugin-git-inspect plus a manual git-inspect row). The npm name dsh-plugin-git-inspect was NOT found on the registry on 2026-09-30, so use the release tarball or the GitHub install.
Compatibility
Windows, macOS, or Linux with git on the host PATH; Node.js >= 22.19.0. Requires a DeepSeek Harness composition providing @deepseek-ai/dsh-tools, @deepseek-ai/dsh-system-prompt, and @deepseek-ai/dsh-subprocess, plus a subprocess implementation such as @deepseek-ai/dsh-subprocess-local. v0.3.6 is type-checked, tested, built, and package-validated against DeepSeek Harness 0.1.2-rc.1 while retaining compatibility with 0.1.0-rc.5 through rc.8 and 0.1.1-rc.1 through rc.2. All limits must be positive integers and each default count cannot exceed its maximum.

Recent updates
The README documents the ten tools with their optional arguments, the safety model, the requirements, the bundle and manual install paths, the git-inspect config table (timeoutMs 30000, maxOutputBytes 200000, stderrMaxBytes 16384, graceMs 1000, defaultLogCount 20, maxLogCount 100, defaultBlameLineCount 50, maxBlameLineCount 200), sample tool calls, the integration-test dev flow (npm run verify), and the deliberate scope (read-only inspection; write/remote/branch/worktree/file-editing operations are out of scope so a host composition can apply its own approval policy).
FAQ
- How do I install dsh-plugin-git-inspect?
- Per the README's bundle install, run dsh plugin --profile web add https://github.com/Wanbinyu/dsh-plugin-git-inspect/releases/download/v0.3.6/dsh-plugin-git-inspect-0.3.6.tgz, then restart dsh; the bundle inserts the git-inspect row. The npm name is not published.
- Can the agent change my repository with it?
- No -- the README states only inspection commands are exposed (no commit, push, reset, stash, checkout, or file editing), git is started with a fixed argv vector and never a shell, and user paths use Git's -- pathspec separator.
- How much output can a tool return?
- Per the README, stdout/stderr are bounded by configuration (maxOutputBytes 200000, stderrMaxBytes 16384, timeoutMs 30000 by default) and the result reports when output was truncated; git_blame defaults to 50 lines and is capped at 200.
