pulseaiclub/phi
a coding Agent from pi
phi is a minimal terminal coding agent harness in Go — a sibling to Pi — that adds sub-agents, hashline file edits, and MCP without context bloat. Sub-agents spawn isolated jobs in the TUI without stuffing runs into the parent context. Hashline edits (inspired by oh-my-pi) let the model point at @file#TAG line anchors instead of rewriting whole files; stale hashes are rejected to stop silent corruption. MCP servers are configured freely but their tool schemas never enter the model prompt — the agent uses mcp_list/mcp_inspect/mcp_call meta-tools to discover and call on demand.
Install
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pulseaiclub/phi/main/scripts/install.sh | bashmacOS/Linux install via shell script. Windows: irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pulseaiclub/phi/main/scripts/install.ps1 | iex (PowerShell 5.1+). After install, run: phi config — to open the config editor and set up your model/API key.
Compatibility
macOS, Linux, Windows. Go 1.26+. Works with OpenAI-compatible APIs and Anthropic directly. Configures in ~/.phi/config.yaml.

FAQ
- How do I install phi?
- On macOS/Linux: curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pulseaiclub/phi/main/scripts/install.sh | bash. On Windows (PowerShell 5.1+): irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pulseaiclub/phi/main/scripts/install.ps1 | iex. Then run phi config to set up your model.
- How do phi's hashline edits differ from normal file patching?
- With hashline edits, the model references files by @file path#TAG plus LINE#HASH anchors instead of rewriting whole files. Stale tags or mismatched hashes are rejected at the tool boundary, preventing over-edits and silent corruption.
- How does phi handle MCP servers without bloating the context?
- MCP server tool schemas never enter the model prompt — only server names are listed. The agent calls three meta-tools (mcp_list, mcp_inspect, mcp_call) to discover and invoke MCP capabilities on demand, keeping the context lean even with many servers configured.
