rogerdigital/dsh-searxng

SearXNG-backed web_search provider for the web seam: free, self-hosted, key-less metasearch through your own instance's JSON API, with a bundled loopback-only docker-compose example.

dsh-searxng registers a SearXNG-backed search provider into DeepSeek Harness's web capability seam (ctx.web), giving the agent web_search through a free, self-hosted, key-less metasearch instance instead of paid Exa/Perplexity APIs. The npx setup command creates a loopback-only, pinned SearXNG Docker deployment, waits for the JSON API, runs a real end-to-end search validation through SearXNG and the final DSH provider configuration, and only then activates the profile; repeating the command reuses the same owned container, port, configuration and secret. An existing local/remote/authenticated SearXNG instance is a first-class path (--url), never invoking Docker. Package installation and plugin activation never start Docker — Docker is changed only by an explicit setup or remove --service command.

Install

npx dsh-searxng setup

npm dsh-searxng 0.3.0 verified 2026-09-04 (repository field → github.com/rogerdigital/dsh-searxng; README EN primary). The setup command installs AND attaches the plugin to the selected profile: npx dsh-searxng setup, then dsh --profile web. It creates a loopback-only, pinned SearXNG Docker deployment, waits for the JSON API, runs a real search through both SearXNG and the final DSH provider configuration, and only then activates the profile. Requires Node 20+, Docker Engine/Desktop + Compose v2. Existing SearXNG instance path: npx dsh-searxng setup --profile web --url https://search.example.com.

Compatibility

DeepSeek Harness web seam (ctx.web); Node 20+; Docker Engine or Desktop + Docker Compose v2 for the self-hosted route; free, self-hosted, key-less SearXNG metasearch.

FAQ

Do I need a search API key?
No — SearXNG is free and key-less; the setup command runs a loopback-only SearXNG Docker deployment (or you point it at an existing instance with --url).
What does the setup command actually do?
It installs the plugin, creates the pinned SearXNG deployment, waits for its JSON API, runs a real search through both SearXNG and the final DSH provider config, and only then activates the profile.
Does installing the plugin start Docker?
No — package install and plugin activation never start Docker; only an explicit dsh-searxng setup (or remove --service) touches Docker.
