maojindao55/deepseek-harness-acp
Standalone Agent Client Protocol (ACP) server for DeepSeek Harness with real-time streaming, reasoning trace,
A standalone Agent Client Protocol (ACP) server powered by DeepSeek Harness, so editors and third-party clients that speak ACP can drive a DeepSeek agent. It streams word-by-word agent_message_chunk output for low latency and agent_thought_chunk reasoning traces, reports full token and performance metrics (input/output/cached/thought tokens plus _meta.metrics with TTFT, tokens per second, cache hit rate, turns and steps) in the session/prompt response, and publishes tool execution lifecycle updates through tool_call and tool_call_update. Sessions can be listed, loaded and resumed across processes; models switch live. It also acts as an MCP client, auto-discovering project .mcp.json / .cursor/mcp.json / .vscode/mcp.json and ACP session parameters so external stdio and SSE MCP servers extend the agent's tool set.
Install
npm install -g deepseek-harness-acpREADME quick start: install globally with npm install -g deepseek-harness-acp (short alias dsh-acp), or run it without installing via npx dsh-acp / npx deepseek-harness-acp. Set DEEPSEEK_API_KEY in a .env file or the environment; optional overrides are DEEPSEEK_BASE_URL and DSH_PERMISSION_MODE (workspace-write | danger-full-access). Editor integration for Zed is a custom_agents block in ~/.config/zed/settings.json with the command and env; FreeBuddy takes the command plus an environment variable; a Node/TypeScript client example uses @agentclientprotocol/sdk with ClientSideConnection and ndJsonStream. npm deepseek-harness-acp 0.1.27 verified 2026-09-12 (registry repository field → github.com/maojindao55/deepseek-harness-acp).
Compatibility
Zero-config startup — only DEEPSEEK_API_KEY is required; a built-in default configuration starts immediately. Models deepseek-v4-pro / deepseek-v4-flash can be switched at runtime. Works as an Agent Client Protocol server for editors such as Zed and FreeBuddy, and as an MCP client.

Recent updates
The README documents the MCP configuration surface — workspace discovery files (.mcp.json, .cursor/mcp.json, .vscode/mcp.json) with stdio and remote-SSE server examples, plus dynamic ACP session parameters supplying servers per session — and shows a full Node/TypeScript integration example covering initialize, newSession, streaming updates and requestPermission.
FAQ
- How do I install the DeepSeek Harness ACP server?
- npm install -g deepseek-harness-acp (alias dsh-acp), or run it directly with npx dsh-acp. Only DEEPSEEK_API_KEY is required to start — the README describes it as zero-config.
- Can I use it inside Zed?
- Yes — add a custom_agents entry under assistant in ~/.config/zed/settings.json with command: "deepseek-harness-acp" and DEEPSEEK_API_KEY in its env. FreeBuddy and any ACP-capable client work the same way, and there is an SDK example for building your own client.
- Does it support external MCP servers?
- Yes. It runs as an MCP client, auto-discovering project .mcp.json, .cursor/mcp.json and .vscode/mcp.json, and it also accepts MCP servers passed as ACP session parameters. Stdio and remote-SSE servers are both supported.
